About The Class
Instructor: Debbie Jackson
Medium: Polymer Clay
Workshop Title: Culture in Clay
Don’t you love world textiles? The crossover of traditional textile techniques into a modern material like polymer clay can push you out of your comfort zone and expand your creative mind. Focusing primarily on Japanese shibori techniques and a bit of African textiles, students will learn a variety of traditional dye-resist patterns involving binding, clamping, folding, stitching and pole-wrapping. These patterns are transferred to polymer clay veneers which will then be used to create either a small wall piece, major neckpiece or brooch. Some experience with polymer clay including clay conditioning, tool use, and how to make a simple cane.
